When Jesus spoke to the woman at the well in John 4:13-14 he told her, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” As believers in Christ we can be comforted with the fact that no matter what happens in life, we know one thing for sure, we will never thirst again.
As humans we are driven by the need to eat, to drink, to find shelter. We have a drive to survive. What many in this world don’t understand is that spiritually we have a similar need. We hunger for things to satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst and many things we try to fill our lives with leave us feeling more hungry and thirsty than we were before.
I remember the first time we conducted a Gospel Event in Brazil. A young man came to one of our meetings and as he stood at the back of the meeting he began to encounter the awesome presence of God. He said that his whole life flashed before him and he saw that he had been trying to satisfy his spiritual thirst with relationships, alcohol and drug use. He said all of a sudden in that meeting he realized the thing he had been looking for His whole life was in that meeting. The person and presence of Jesus was the thing he had been looking for all his life.
That young man surrendered his life to Christ, got filled with the awesome presence of the Holy Spirit and will never thirst again. The reason Jesus said to the woman at the well she would never thirst again, is because he was saying the Holy Spirit would come to indwell her and He is a river that never runs dry. The Holy Spirit will quench the thirst of anyone who makes the decision to satisfy their thirst with Him.
Today I want to encourage you if you have Jesus in your heart, you will never thirst again. Don’t allow your life to be filled with things that leave you thirsty and dry. Allow the Sprit of God to fill you afresh with His life changing living water. Drink deep from the well of salvation and as you do, you will become a source of sustenance for others. The world needs to hear this wonderful message that if they put their faith in Jesus, and turn from their sin, they will never thirst again.
