Jesus said “The harvest is great” in Matthew 9:37, today I want to spend a few moments unpacking this incredible statement! Jesus is not making the statement in isolation, there is a context. He had been traveling through the towns and villages of Israel, teaching in the synagogues, preaching the Good News of the Kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. (Matthew 9:25)
When Jesus says ‘the harvest is great,’ he’s talking about what happens when the power of the Kingdom of God impacts the vast ocean of human need and desperation. Time and time again as we have travelled the nations of the world conducting Gospel Events, it’s like a match is lit, a flame is ignited as hungry people desperate for a miracle are impacted with the awesome power of God.
A wonderful explosion takes place as people witness God’s miracle touch, as their lives are impacted with the reality of a God of compassion and miracles! The harvest begins to enlarge, until it becomes great! Jesus statement has context, He’s saying as the power of the Kingdom of God breaks onto and over a raw and needy humanity, a harvest is generated!
And we have seen people all over the world impacted personally with the power and fire of the Holy Spirit. As they have gone out into their workplaces, and communities, the harvest has been thrust upon them supernaturally. I don’t know any other way to explain it that if God’s power touches your life it draws people to you like a moth to a flame. You become a witness for Jesus, because you have witnessed something. You become convincing to others because you are convinced yourself!
And then there is the harvest in your life. Ephesians 3:20 tells us “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,” As God’s power impacts your life, it’s generates and accelerates the harvest of God’s breakthrough and blessing. Countless times we have witnessed people experience breakthrough in their personal lives as God’s power begins to shake and impact their lives.
Today I want to encourage you, “The harvest is great” because God’s power is at work in you! The Harvest is great because God’s love for lost humanity has opened the floodgates for His glory to be poured out. I want to encourage you to be a channel for God’s unlimited power and as you do, you will experience the greatness of the harvest!
