The Bible tells us we are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). It tells us that while He may not deliver us out of every situation, He will prepare a table for us in the presence of our enemies (Psalm 23). Whatever you are faced with today, remember you are a child of the King. God has all the wealth of heaven at His disposal to take care of you. You have certain rights as a child of God. You are entitled to the children’s bread, a seat at the King’s table! (Mark 7:27)
As my mentor was traveling in the nation of Jordan, he heard a story: The King of Jordan was visiting an orphanage and he saw the substandard conditions where the orphans lived. He made the radical decision to transfer all of the orphans to his palace. In just a moment of time, the situation of these orphans changed from living in abject squalor to living lives of privilege. One word from the King changed everything!
One word from the King can also change everything for you. Today, I want to encourage you; if you are a Christian, you are a child of the great King of Kings. There is a place for you at His table! One word from Him and everything changes for you! In Mark 7 the Syrophenician woman came to Jesus with a request for deliverance for her little daughter.
Jesus said to her “Let the children be fed first, for it is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” (v. 27) She replied “Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” (v. 28) Jesus respected her faith stand, her tenacity, her humility and love for her daughter. He spoke the word and when she got home, she found her daughter was delivered.
One word from the King and this woman’s situation was radically altered. I’m telling you, if crumbs under the table can bring such a mighty deliverance to someone, what is God capable of doing for someone who takes their proper place at His table?! God wants to change your perspective. He wants to challenge the way you think about yourself. You’re a child of the King! At God’s table we find all the healing, breakthrough, deliverance and provision we need.
God’s table is not short of bread! II Samuel 9 tells us the story of Mephibosheth, the crippled son of Jonathan. King David was looking for someone from Saul’s family that he could show kindness to because of his friend, Jonathan. They brought Mephibosheth to David. When they met, Mephibosheth said to David “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?” (v. 8)
David wasn’t concerned about the state of this man. Mephibosheth was a helpless cripple; someone dependent on others for help. He could have been a strong hard working person, someone worthy of blessing; even Mephibosheth realized this. He saw himself as unworthy of the King’s blessing, but none of this mattered to King David. He was just looking for someone, anyone from Saul’s family to show kindness to.
David said to Mephibosheth “I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father, Jonathan. I will restore to you all of the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” (v. 7) Verse 11 tells us “Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.”
Today I want to encourage you, even if you feel unworthy, God is committed to blessing you anyway. We need to understand that sometimes, it’s not because of anything we can do that qualifies us for God’s blessing. Mephibosheth qualified because of his family heritage. And today because of the shed blood of Jesus you have been adopted into the family of God. That, and that alone is the reason King Jesus seeks to bless you! You have the right heritage!
Today I am believing that God will reveal to you who you are in His Kingdom. That He will show you what He has prepared for you and the plans He has to bless you. God wants to bless you so you can be an instrument to bless others and extend His Kingdom. The Kingdom of God is advancing and God wants to use you and me to extend it!
