In the past few months we have seen God do so many incredible miracles. When a miracle takes place a person is almost in a state of shock, in a good way! I like to think of a miracle as the opposite of a tragedy. When a tragic event happens, people are horrified, shocked and grieved at the loss suffered. I don’t want to for a moment take these situations lightly, people need our love and compassion, life can be very hard. However, when a miracle takes place, it seems to me, people are equally shocked. It’s like they are living in a dream, and then a wonderful reality and realization begins to set in that God is incredibly good and wants good things for their lives.
Psalm 126:1 tells us “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion we were like those who dreamed.’ In my own life as I have experienced God’s miracles, I have pinched myself wondering if it was really happening! I have seen others have the same response, it’s like for a moment reality has been forever altered! God has the ability to change our entire world!
A miracle is often a work of God’s restoration in our lives. Restoration is often not just a miracle restoring what the enemy has taken from us, it is a restoration of what was lost at the fall of humanity itself. A restoration of what Jesus has paid for us at the Cross!
I have to be honest here, there are times when I witness God do a miracle and I break down and cry, overwhelmed with the goodness of God! Years ago, we had an translator who was from a Church who didn’t believe in miracles; as she had to translate one miracle after another, eventually she also was reduced to tears as the revelation of God’s reality and goodness impacted her life, breaking down the walls of well-meaning, religious unbelief.
Just a few days ago, we prayed for a young man who had a degenerative bone condition originating in his lower back, which was causing tremendous pain. As we prayed for him, he felt a jolt in his lower back and everything began straitening out. He kept saying over and over “I’ve never felt anything like this before!” He hasn’t had any pain since! We serve a wonder working God!
It was his sense of shock that really struck me; his sense of awe as He began to realize that Jesus had healed him. The whole experience was nothing short of mind blowing for him, especially since he hadn’t really been walking with the Lord. God reached out to this man with His reality and His love.
The Bible says, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, who went around doing good and healing all those that were sick and oppressed of the devil for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38). The devil has oppressed so many people. All sickness arises ultimately from the fall. Jesus has paid the price to redeem us from these things and when they break off, there is often as much shock about the wonderful health and life the person is now able to enjoy, as the shock and sorrow the sickness and suffering had originally brought!
When God does a miracle it’s a wonderful thing! The devil wants to bring sorrow, sadness and suffering to our lives, through sickness and oppression, but Jesus came to release us from all of these things! He wants to shock all of us with His goodness, to change our world with His wonder working power!
Many times we wonder, “What will happen if I pray for this person and nothing happens?” We have it all wrong! We need to challenge that thought with faith and say, “What will it be like if I pray for this person and a miracle does happen!” Faith moves God and expectation creates an atmosphere of faith for the Spirit of God to bring healing and life.
I understand that life can be filled with many sad and unfortunate circumstances which can seem out of our control, but I want to take a few moments today to encourage you with some good thoughts! The Bible says in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Why? Because it builds our faith for breakthrough and miracles!
Today I want to encourage you to keep looking up, to fix your eyes on Jesus, the Source of all miracles and breakthrough. Stay in faith, trust in Him; He will come through for you! When His miracle power begins to touch your life, I’m telling you, it will feel like you’re living in a dream; you will have to pinch yourself! God is the God of restoration in your life and because of your faith in Christ’s finished work, a miracle is coming your way!
