“I have just arrived” (Joshua 5:14) these were the words of the Commander of the Lord’s Army to Joshua just as they were preparing to take the City of Jericho. The walls of Jericho were about to come down, a mighty victory was about to take place, they were about to experience incredible breakthrough and God assigned His entire army to ensure His plans and purposes prevailed.
Joshua asked the Commander, “Whose side are you on—ours or our enemies’?” (Joshua 5:13) The Commander replied, “Neither. I’m commander of God’s army.” Joshua had aligned himself and the entire army of Israel with the purposes of God. God spoke to them and gave them instructions to take the City. They were to march around the City once a day and on the seventh day, seven times. Then they were to blow on the trumpets, give a mighty shout, and the walls would come down.
God sent His Angel of breakthrough with an entire army of Angels to ensure that as the people of God obeyed His Word, breakthrough would ensue. What a tremendous encouragement Joshua must have felt when he realized the Commander of heavens armies was backing him up. He wasn’t sure who the Commander was at first he looked like a regular soldier, but as soon as he realized who he was dealing with he fell face to the ground and worshipped.
When breakthrough and victory is imminent, the enemy gets stirred up, there is a tremendous spiritual battle. God assigns Angels to ensure his plans and purposes prevail. When those Jericho walls came crashing down, I have to believe it was because they were impacted with the full force of the armies of heaven. When God’s people act in faith and obedience to God we can also expect the backing of heaven.
Romans 8:31-32 tells us “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” God was for Joshua and the army of Israel, because they were His chosen people, and they obeyed the voice of God.
And today God is for you, you are a precious child of God Almighty Himself. As you continue to obey God and trust in His Word, you can expect the Commander of the Lord’s Army to visit you and say “I have just arrived!” You can expect God’s miraculous intervention and breakthrough from heaven because if God is for you, no one can be against you. You hang in there today, breakthrough is coming your way.
