The Gospel is the greatest need in the world today, spiritual death, dryness and spiritual bankruptcy are the source of so much suffering in humanity. People do desperate things in their quest to satisfy their spiritual thirst and that makes this world a very broken place. Today I want to share a few thoughts around not just the preaching of the gospel, but being a channel for the living waters of the Gospel to flow into the lives of others!
When Jesus was talking with the woman at the well in John 4, he said “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, But whoever drinks some of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again, but the water that I will give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up to eternal life.” (Verses 13-14)
This woman was in a very dry place spiritually, coming to the well for physical water and Jesus took this opportunity to share the Gospel with her about spiritual, living water. Jesus as the Great Evangelist here, shows us the importance of addressing the deepest underlying needs of those we are looking to see impacted with the Gospel. To present the Gospel as a solution for that need.
This woman was an incredibly dry and thirsty person, someone who had tried all their life to fill that God shaped vacuum. Jesus says to her in effect that ‘the desert in your life is about to become a fountain of eternal life! A source of living water for many others.’ What an incredible contrast – a desert and a fountain and yet this is the hope the Gospel brings!
And of course this woman runs into the town, and brings everyone to meet with Jesus. She becomes an Evangelist herself! As soon as you begin to drink the living water that Jesus offers, something breaks loose deep on the inside of you. That water begins to spread from your life to impact the lives of others! There is a desire that wells up inside of you for others to experience the same thing you have experienced!
Today I want to encourage you that God wants to bring you to a place of great refreshing and overflow! I want to encourage you to begin to thirst for God like never before and as you do, a fountain of eternal life will spring up inside of you. God wants you and I to be the solution to a thirsty world! I’m praying today, that God will use you in a mighty way!
