I often get asked why we see so many miracles at our Gospel Events in the developing world, compared to the developed world. I try to never give a simplistic answer to such a complex question, usually as part of my answer I try to impress upon people the truth that God responds to desperate faith. Many in the developing world have no access to the medical treatment facilities we have in the West, without a miracle some of them will die. They come to our meetings with a faith born out of desperation and God meets them in that place.
The woman with the issue of blood came to Jesus with desperate faith. She had tried all the doctors and medicine and nothing could make her well. When she reached out and touched the hem of Jesus garment, He was her only hope. In desperation she touched him and God’s power was released. (Luke 8)
When we are desperate, we can react in all kinds of ways. We can feel like giving up, we can feel like doing things our own way. We can feel like running from God. Today I want to encourage you to run to God in the midst of your desperate situation and release your faith. God does wonderful things when we come to him in desperate need.
When we go through the fires of adversity, God is looking to draw us closer, to believe Him more than ever before. In Luke 5, we read the story of the crippled man who was lowered through the roof to Jesus. His friends couldn’t get him close enough for prayer, so they cut a hole through the roof. That is desperate faith. We need the kind of faith that won’t take no for an answer when it comes to believing God.
The friends were connected to the desperate need of their friend and they acted out of that desperation. They knew if they could just get him closer to Jesus, He could do a miracle for their friend. Jesus could have told them off for cutting through the roof, and being disrespectful to the owner of the house, but he responded with love and grace and released the miracle their friend needed. God meets us at the point of our need. He meets us at the place where we need him most.
Blind Bartemaues cried out to Jesus in desperation, when the crowds told him to be quiet, he cried out even louder. Desperate faith cannot be silenced. (Mark 10) Today maybe you are faced with a desperate situation, I want to encourage you to bring your needs to God. God doesn’t turn us away in our moment of greatest need, He is the solution to every problem, the answer to every question. Release your faith today, you will be amazed at what God will do for you!
