And it was 25 years before he began to see the beginning of the promises fulfilled. So much hinged upon the fact that he would have a child through Sarah, who had been barren all those years. And now, up there at 90 years old, she gave birth to this promised child! God acted: He visited Sarah and worked a miracle in her life – in His set time.
And there are times God will come to us and give us a promise and it seems like soon after that moment all the forces of hell are sent to bring delay, discouragement and doubt. And that may be where you are today, you have heard God promise you something and you are looking at your circumstances wondering how on earth you got into the mess you are in.
Maybe you are in business facing bankruptcy, maybe you are facing a life threatening illness, maybe you are besieged by crisis and you are wondering “God, this is not what I signed up for! I thought things were supposed to turn out a little different to this!’
If that is you today, I want to encourage you, you have the seed of promise from Almighty God on the inside of you! That seed is incorruptible, it will not be defeated or denied! No matter how bad things look or how much the enemy has thrown at you, if you stay faithful to God and believe what He has said, it is your circumstances, not you that will have to move! God’s promise will be fulfilled and you will come out on top! You won’t stay down forever!
And when we consider history and the descendents of Abraham, many times they were trapped in harsh oppressive situations, Abraham’s grandson Jacob had an uncle determined to rob him of his family and business and in spite of everything his uncle tried to do God blessed him anyway. The children of Israel were a slave nation, forced to make bricks for their Egyptian masters, and God delivered them with such power, the nations trembled!
And Jesus the promised Messiah was the descendant of Abraham, He was the incarnation of thousands of prophetic promises, He was the Word made manifest, the Word who became flesh. And at His birth the devil used political leaders to try to wipe him out, and His parents escaped being warned by an angel.
And as He grew older the enemy knew the Messianic prophecies and sought to kill him. And Jesus was beaten, scorned, mocked, ridiculed, broken, bruised, bloodied and killed. The enemy threw everything he had at Jesus, but the bible says he lacked wisdom, if the enemy was really smart he would not have crucified Christ. “We speak about the mystery of God’s wisdom. It is a wisdom that has been hidden, which God had planned for our glory before the world began. Of which not one of the rulers of this world had knowledge: for if they had, they would not have put the Lord of glory on the cross.” I Cor. 2:7-8.
The enemy crucified Christ and the cross changed the course of history, what Jesus did destroyed all of the enemy’s power. God made the decision, it’s time for me to move and show what I can do, and I’m telling you there is no greater power than the love of God, and God’s power shook the grave, the tomb, and the dead body of Christ, the guards guarding the tomb and all of the power of heaven was released. When God decides to move nothing can stop Him! Jesus did not stay down forever, you cannot keep a good man down!
You may be faced with impossible circumstances, it may feel like it’s Friday night in you life, but remember, resurrection Sunday is on the way. The devil can only do so much before God releases His power! It may seem like the enemy has won, but remember God always wins.
Don’t give up on what He has promised you. You may be facing harsh oppressive circumstances, remember God has spoken to you! Don’t give up until you see Him move! And God will! He will show up, He will show off! He will reverse everything the enemy has done. He is a God of restoration! God is living inside of you and you have His promise, the enemy cannot keep you down forever. Sooner or later you are going to rise, you will see all the things He has spoken to you come to pass. Stay humble before God, commit you life to him and when it is His time nothing will hold you down any longer. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” 1 Peter 5:6.
