Everything originates with God. Sometime we feel we need to have enough faith to see God move in the circumstances of our lives and it’s true – Hebrews 11:6 tells us without faith it’s impossible to please God. But we need to be reminded that our faith comes from God and that our faith is in God, the initiator.
I remember when I first came to faith in Christ; I had had a tremendous encounter with God. I was transformed from being a avowed Agnostic, to a fervent follower of Christ. I remember thinking “I didn’t have an ounce of faith for what happened to me, God just did it.” My faith came from an encounter with God.
Now I realize not everyone comes to Christ in this way but the Bible is clear that “We love God, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) Anyone who comes to faith in God, comes because they were touched by the love of God in some way; they were convinced of the reality of God in some way. God is the originator of our faith, and the Bible says he is the finisher of our faith. God will complete the work He has begun in you! (Phil. 1:6)
God is the one who reached out to a lost and dying world and He sent Jesus to us. God is the one who reached out when we were lost. The Bible tells us in Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Even when we didn’t even want to know God; He so wanted to have relationship with us that He sent Jesus.
Then there are the various financial and other needs we have in life. God is the Source of our supply. We don’t provide for God, God provides for us. He says in Psalm 50:12 “If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine and all that is in it.” I’m telling you God doesn’t need any help from you or me, He is just looking for us to trust that He will provide. Everything begins with God.
Then, there is our divine destiny and purpose in life. God has a plan for your life and it is a wonderful plan. This plan originates with God. John 15:16 says “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last.” The Apostle Paul said “but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” (Phil 3:12b)
As believers, our lives are lived in response to God the initiator. He has a plan for us, and our job is to find out what that plan is and respond to it. If we allow God to start a work within us, He will sustain it and bring it to completion. All we have to do is be those who allow the Spirit of God to initiate and continue to do His mighty work in our lives.
Galatians 3:3 says “Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?” Today I want to encourage you. God has begun a great work in your life and He has a plan to bring it to completion. Don’t be tempted to take matters into your own hands, trust that God is in control. Allow God be the initiator and sustainer of your life.
