In order for God to accomplish anything in us and through us, we need to have His heart and His mind. God has multiple plans and purposes in mind as He runs the Universe, but at the forefront of these I believe is a desire to reach the unreached. There are many facets and ways which this desire is fulfilled. I don’t want to consider the ways so much as to simply focus on the actual desire.
John 3:16 tells us that “God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The whole purpose of Jesus coming to the earth was that no one should perish or go to hell. The reason God sent Jesus was because He loved the world.
God loves people who don’t even know Him. He even loves those who are not interested, don’t believe in Him, reject Him, rebel against Him and even crusade against Him. God loves atheists, agnostics, humanists, hedonists, secularists, evolutionists, people from all races, all beliefs and philosophies and all religions. In His heart, He is constantly reaching out to them in love.
I want to quote a passage which reflects this desire of God:
Psalms 2:
“1.Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2. The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. 3. “Let us break their chains,” they say, “and throw off their fetters.” 4.The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5. Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6. “I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.” 7. I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father. 8. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.”
This is a prophetic passage which refers to the Messiah coming to rule the earth. I believe it also refers to the Messiah coming to redeeem humanity. It is one of 60 prophecies and over 300 references in the Old Testament concerning the coming Messiah. If just seven of those were fulfilled in Jesus, without Divine intervention, the odds of them happening are 1 in 10 to the power of 38; that’s 1 in 100 billion, billion, billion, billion. Highly unlikely! But they did happen and Jesus came to the earth and changed everything!
If we apply the passage to our modern day setting we know that there are so many people we can compare today with those described in verses 1-3. The nations of the western world have become increasingly secular and godless. Society continues to move the legal goalposts to reflect the increasingly godless agenda of society. In many nations we have legalized prostitution, drug use and many other forms of conduct which previously society had deemed inappropriate. Some communistic, atheistic regimes have rejected God entirely.
Many atheists mock God and all He stands for. They say there is no God, no sin, no consequences for their actions. And how does God respond? Verse 4 tells us that God sits in the heavens and laughs. I believe God has a plan to reach even the toughest people. No one intimidates God, and no impossible circumstances trouble Him. Verse 5 suggests that God will begin moving and troubling those who oppose Him. Whether people acknowledge it or not, ultimately if they are not with God they are running from Him. God is running after them.
Then in verse 6 & 7 God talks about a King, His only begotten Son. God says to Him, “Ask me for something.” And we know God the Father and God the Son have need of nothing. They own everything. God created everything there is. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, the cars in all the car lots, the money in all the banks. What is it God could want or have need of?
God’s presence is everywhere except for one place – the heart of the unbeliever. There is only one thing that is on the heart of God; only one things God has need of – the hearts of the unreached, the nations of the world. God the Father says to God the Son, “Ask of me and I will give you the nations.”
Deep within the heart of God, a fire burns. I believe it burns with love for you and me, but more than anything else it burns for the unreached of the world. God wants the unsaved to come into the Kingdom more than any of us do. He wants us to have His heart. He wants us to have His mind.
God has need of something and He wants to use us to meet that need. That is why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, to help us fulfill the last great command of Jesus “Go into all the world and preach the gospel.” The Holy Spirit communicates what is on the heart of God to us. I am believing God today that He will communicate afresh to you this great desire of His heart; that the nations would come to know Jesus.
I am praying and believing that God will baptize you in a fresh love for the unsaved. That God will break your heart with the things that break His heart. That He will use you to win the nations for the Kingdom of God. That not one drop of the blood of Jesus will be shed in vain. That God so change you and use you to give Him the one thing that He truly desires – the nations of the world!
