Agiant in your life will seek to put fear into your life and get you to back away from what God has called you to do. It takes courage to follow God and confront the giants in your life. When Joshua was about to enter the promised land, God spoke to him and said, “This is my command–be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
God knew Joshua would have to cross the Jordan river, bring down the walls of Jericho, face an alliance of five Amorite kings from Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon. At Gibeon, Joshua asked God to cause the sun and moon to stand still, so that he could finish the battle in daylight. (Joshua 10:12-13) God answered his prayer because God was with him. From there on, Joshua was able to lead the Israelites into victory after victory, securing much of the land of Canaan.
When you face your giants, when you face your fears, you grow in strength and courage. You grow in victory and breakthrough. When God calls you to something, there is a season of testing then there is a season of fulfillment and then when you enter the land of fulfillment, there are giants to face. We have to learn to be the kind of people who refuse to back down when we are faced with challenges, opposition and fears of every kind.
Caleb and Joshua didn’t run, David didn’t run, Gideon didn’t run, the Bible is full of stories of people who had to face giants and defeat them. Jesus Himself did not run from what God called him to do. He did not run from the giant of the sin of humanity, all the dark forces of hell were arrayed against him and yet he did not back down, he went to the Cross. He achieved the greatest victory in the history of the human race, the salvation of all humanity.
Sometimes the will of God involves confronting giants in the way of God’s miracle breakthrough and blessing. I’m always inspired by the accounts of Winston Churchill, who stood up to the Nazi regime which was determined to conquer the world. Churchill’s stand against the tyranny of the Nazi regime ultimately led to it’s demise. His courage inspired a nation to stand and fight and never give up.
Today I want to encourage you, don’t run from your giants. Face them with wisdom and courage. Seek God for His guidance and direction. Never back down, never give up, as you press through, you will see those giants fall, the walls of Jericho will come down and you will walk into all God has for you.
