Today for our Fire on Friday’s message, I want to spend a few moments considering the river of fire that flows from the throne room of God. If you’re like me you may be thinking ‘I know there is a river that flows from the throne of God, but I didn’t know it was a river of fire.’ The river that flows from God’s throne is a river of the Holy Spirit and as we know the Spirit of God comes many times in the form of a Holy fire.
Daniel 7:9-10 tells us “As I looked, “thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.”
Daniel’s friends had been thrown into the fiery furnace. Everyone including the King had watched as the son of God had walked in the midst of the fire with them! The son of God was most comfortable walking around in the fire. Fire reflects His nature and character. And here in this vision Daniel beholds God in all of His fiery glory! God has fiery wheels on His throne and His throne is all on fire! A river of fire flows from the throne of God. God stands in the fire, He sits in the fire, He is the source of the fire, He is an all consuming fire! (Hebrews 12:29)
People wonder why I love to preach and minister about the fire of the Holy Spirit! Well, it has a lot to do with the fact that, that fire is the essence of who He is! This river of fire coming from God’s throne is a beautiful picture of the work of the Holy Spirit in this world. From the very height of God’s throne in heaven comes the fiery Holy Spirit, in the form of a river, looking to consume, change and transform everyone on the earth who is willing to believe and receive!
God wants you in this river of fire. He want you to be completely immersed in it so that you flow with it, and take fire with you wherever you go! Matthew 3 tells us that John the Baptist baptized in the Jordon river, a river of water. He was the forerunner for Jesus who would baptize in a river of fire! The word in the Greek for baptism is Baptizo, which means to plunge or immerse. God wants you and I to be immersed in this river of fire. He wants to have all of you in the fire and and all of the fire in you! Nothing can bring change and transformation to a human life like the work of the Holy Spirit.
The fire of God puts urgency into prayer, it puts power into preaching, it destroys demonic strongholds, it burns up evil., brings forth pure gold in our lives, it releases conviction and true repentance. We need this fire in our lives more than ever before! Maybe today you have never experienced the Holy Spirit immersing you in His fiery Presence. I’m believing God for an outpouring of God’s Spirit in your life! Maybe today you have been in this river and you want to go deeper. I challenge you to go a little deeper today, and as you do, you will be amazed at what God will do in you and through you!
