For a number of years I lived in the wonderful City of Tulsa Oklahoma. Every Spring the thunder storms roll in, there are tornado warnings, one year we had golf size hail stones. It can be a scary time! When those storms roll in you quickly develop a healthy respect for the power of a storm. I believe storms are a natural representation of God’s awesome supernatural power. There is a side to God, that is so powerful it commands an awe and respect from us.


I remember some years ago we were doing some ministry in Northern Michigan and a firestorm of God’s power swept into the service in such an incredible way. I remember standing at the pulpit and hanging onto it for dear life. No one had taught me in Seminary in our Practice Preaching class how to prepare for such an invasion of God’s glory and power! God’s power is an awesome thing to behold.

In Mark 3, Jesus called twelve men to be His disciples. Among them were “James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder)” (Mark 3:17). There’s plenty of speculation about why Jesus named these disciples, “Son’s of Thunder.” Some believe it had to with their fiery nature, and disposition. I believe it was a prophetic declaration over these disciples and that all of us as believers are called to be Son’s and Daughters of Thunder.

When the woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus’ garment he said “Who touched me? I felt power going out from me.” (Luke 8:46) As believers God calls us to be full of God’s awesome power, so we can see that power released to touch the lives of others! God could use a staff to conduct his power, like He did with Moses. He could use a handkerchief to conduct His power like he did with the Apostle Paul, but more than anything else, He likes to use people like you and me to conduct His power!

Ephesians 3:20 says “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” God moves doing the miraculous and the impossible when His power is at work in our lives. God’s power breaks demonic shackles and strongholds over our lives holding us back. Today I’m believing God for a fresh impartation of God’s power for your life. You are called to be carrier of God’s power, a son or a daughter of Thunder. This world needs the power of God, this world needs you!
