I remember years ago I would spend days preaching the Gospel on the streets of New Zealand. Sometimes, some of the people I shared with would try and convince me of the truths of their unbelieving worldview as much as I was looking to try and convince them of the truths of the Gospel. There were times I would come home wondering if God still existed. It’s healthy to have your faith challenged, a robust faith can develop from that. By that stage in my own life, I’d had so many encounters with the power and reality of God, it was impossible for me to deny His existence.

I feel sorry for Atheists and those who have no faith in God. They have the incredibly difficult job of observing the beauty and intricacy of creation and still feel the need to deny His existence. The more science discovers about life and the Universe, the more difficult it it is to deny that at a minimum there was some sort of Intelligent Designer responsible for it all.

Much of the theory of evolution hinges on the existence of a single self replicating molecule. As scientists have begun to decode the human DNA found in the molecule, they found it is far more complex in it’s makeup than it was initially thought. They have discovered an exquisite ‘language’ composed of some 3 billion genetic letters. It is hard to fathom, but the amount of information in human DNA is roughly equivalent to 12 sets of The Encyclopaedia Britannica— an incredible 384 volumes worth of detailed information that would fill 48 feet of library shelves.

Where did all this genetic code and information come from? Some like to believe that this Intelligent Design is the work of ancient spacemen. It seems some people are willing to believe anything that removes them from the need to be accountable to God for their life.

Knowing God exists is the foundation for all we believe as Christians. The enemy is at work through various means to target and undermine this one essential truth. If he can get you to doubt the existence of God then there is no basis for faith. Fortunately we serve a God who is more than able to make Himself real to us if we seek Him. Jeremiah 29:13 tells us “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

I could get into some more discussion around the issue of Gods existence, for some more thoughts, please check out our book “A Real God in an Unreal World.” I want to discuss this issue for a moment in the context of Hebrews 11:6 which tells us: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” The basis of faith is believing in the existence of God.

I know it sounds very simple but this is one of the key areas the enemy looks to attack and undermine in our Christian lives. We need to protect this faith in God’s existence with everything we have. So many times I have encountered people whose faith in God’s existence has been shaken by some of the awful circumstances life can bring. It’s in those times we need to remind ourselves that even if we don’t understand it all, God is still real, He still cares and He is still good.

Don’t let anyone sow doubts into your life and tell you God isn’t real, He is! And today as you continue to believe that He is, and as you continue to seek Him, the Bible tells us He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. It is God who has the final say in any and every situation. God is not a man that He should lie. As you put Him first in your life and seek Him, He will bless you and reveal Himself to you more and more each day.
